On April 27, Karlitschek announced that he was leaving ownCloud (Inc.) immediately. So … what happened? There aren’t a ton of details but from public and a few not-so-public sources, it sounds like a soap opera. seemed to be doing fine and claimed more than 1,000 active developers in its community. While it wasn’t exactly a household name, ownCloud Inc. had $10 million in funding, including a $6.3 million round two years ago, and claimed customers including CERN, the European lab for nuclear research Meritus Health, and the Albert Einstein School of Medicine. If you used the free version but decided to make it your company standard and needed more robust business-focused features, you paid ownCloud Inc., for them.

Ironically, the top of my owncloud window reports an unsupported version, as it is obviously running against Filerun which in turn reports itself as Nextcloud, but I find it quite ironic that an unsupported app works better - for me at least - than the supported one.But as of Thursday, the five-year-old company ceased to exist. Proper file permission support between windows and the unix-based structure of Filerun.
Better resumption of incomplete / interrupted sync operations. This allows me to go back and troubleshoot individual files or folders more easily. Better conflict handling, with the activity window actually showing what files were successfully uploaded, skipped, or errored out, with proper pathnames. While I cannot speak for everyone, for me there has been a night and day difference between Nextcloud and Owncloud, with the latter offering: It operates in a very similar manner, but I am guessing some optimizations that Nextcloud lacks. To prove it, after months of troubleshooting and going back and forth between my Filerun installation settings and the Nextcloud for Windows desktop client, I took a gamble and installed the OWNCLOUD for Windows desktop client, which is currently at version 2.10.1 build 7187. I was sure the problem lied more in Nextcloud than Filerun.
However, I have always found support of the Nexcloud desktop app lacking.
Just want to report some personal experiences.įilerun is an excellent web-based file manager.
